B&Q

Set building and B&Q are words used daily here at Viewpoint Studios, and in this instance, an outdoor set. That’s right, we built an outdoor set… indoors!

Now that might sound funny, but there’s actually a lot of sense as to why we did that. We do of course still go on location and shoot purpose built garden sets, but when you need to shoot a summer BBQ set in the middle of January you need to get creative. We’d recently purchased a new unit specifically for set building, so our team worked out all that was needed to simulate the lighting of an outdoor space, and then worked closely with our retouching and editing teams to understand the smoothest way to move into post production once shot!

An extra challenge was shooting the set in both day and night scenarios. Something we’re very proud of both technically and in the final outcome. This process can be used going forward to make booking work easier. A guaranteed shoot day, not moving it around depending on the weather, and full control of the shot.
